Medieval Fantasy

The main inspiration for this garment was Medieval Fashion and Chainmail armour. The design was inspired from films incorporating medieval life like King Arthur and Lord of the Rings. My idea was to use what men typically wore at that time and modify it for women. I wanted to tear the idea of women being represented as something fragile, to be protected while at the same time not given equal rights. Women can be warriors just like men, they can lead just as much. Why can’t they be the “hero” in the story for once? The strips of fabric with chains going round her body represent the constriction women suffered for many years, and some still are suffering today. Instead of keeping the traditional chainmail, I opted for the brown net making it more comfortable to wear. I wanted to create a design that is in total opposite to what medieval garments looked like; long and covering all of the women’s body often making it uncomfortable.
